This beautiful Rosewood Whistle is made by Ralph Sweet
of the Sweetheart Flute Company. Mr. Sweet pays great attention to detail, and it shows in
the quality of his work. It is approx. 12" long, and tuned to the key of
"D" (D and G are the most popular for traditional Irish music, this whistle
plays easily in both keys).
It is tunable, but made
from one solid piece of Rosewood, so the wood grain matches perfectly, and gives the
appearance of a one-piece whistle. It has a narrow, curved windway and produces a
beautiful, flute-like tone in its entire two octave range.
Sweetheart whistles are very strong in the lower register
(even the low D is very solid). If you're looking for a whistle with the volume to keep up
with other instruments in sessions this may be a good choice.
Each of the two pieces of the whistle are marked
with matching serial numbers.
Professional Model
The Professional Sweetheart D whistle has a
tapered bore, a new windway design and a cork tuning slide. It has a great tone
in both octaves, and is made of Laminated Northern Birch (that looks very much
like Honduras Rosewood).
