Tweaked Clare Two-piece D whistle. Jerry Freeman
is not sure at this time if he is going to continue offering a tweaked
version of this whistle. We will update this note if/when we have any new
information.
Clare whistles are made in
County Clare, Ireland by David LeBas. It's made of brass with a plastic mouthpiece. The
mouthpiece isn't glued on, so this whistle is somewhat tunable (see the notes about tunable
inexpensive whistles on our Make it Tunable Page),
but the mouthpiece fits snuggly - it won't slip while playing. The two piece feature (see
pic below) also allows for some additional tuning, as well as making it easy to carry
around in your pocket or purse.
The Freeman tweaked two-piece, key of D Clare is the perfect
whistle to take everywhere. Fits in a pocket, plays beautifully, with the
legendary Freeman clarity and responsiveness. Jerry has voiced this whistle to
match the vintage Generation voicing, a little sweeter/purer than currently
produced Generations and off-the-shelf Clares, like the best of the whistles
Generation made before the design change in the 1980’s. A classic, pure-drop
authentic sound for Irish Traditional Music, and a wonderful whistle for every
style of playing. Well balanced between registers, clean playing and responsive.

These whistles are available with a red mouthpiece or a black
mouthpiece. The only difference between the two is the color (the tone and
playability are the same).
If you've seen the live performance or the video of
Michael Flatley's Lord Of The Dance, then you've seen a Clare Two Piece
Model before. This is the whistle that Michael Flatley "restored" for the Little
Spirit, after the Little Spirit's whistle was "broken" in two pieces...
This whistle is an excellent choice for beginners -
it plays very well in both octaves.
