This beautiful 22-string Lap Harp is made of fine Walnut; the soundboard is Aircraft-grade Birch laminate. The notes on the Shepherd Lap Harp start on the G below middle C and extend three full octaves upwards. It has a very rich, full sound for it's size (approx. 37" tall by 10-¼" wide) - it's a perfectly-sized instrument for beginners, or a very portable instrument pros. It is in new condition. It has been in our show room long enough now that the stings are fully seated - you should not have to go through the usual "break-in" period of constant tuning before playing it!
The harp is finished with 3 clear coats of Deft brand Semi-gloss Lacquer. The strings are nylon (as generally used in Celtic and Folk music), with the C and F strings color-coded (C strings are red, F strings are blue). This make it very easy to visualize the notes being played.
This harp has "sharping levers" on all of the C and F strings (see image below). Sharping levers allow you to change the pitch of a string by half a step - raising a C to a C# for example. This makes this harp an excellent choice for Celtic music. Most Celtic music is played in the key of D or G - the shaping levers on this harp allow you to play easily in these keys. Of course, playing in the key C is simple, by just not engaging any of the shaping levers. The shaping levers are made by Loveland, and are fully adjustable.
Additional sharping levers are available through me for any or all of the other strings. I will be happy to add these (for a reasonable fee) before shipping your harp, or they are fairly easy to install yourself (if you're a bit handy with hand tools). Note that if you have me install additional levers for you, this will of course delay the shipping of your harp.
Even if you have a very good ear, I do recommend that you purchase a Chromatic Tuner to help you properly tune your harp. We have these available at our online shop; please feel free to ask about details.
The following items will also be included with your harp:
Tuning Key
Folk Harp Journal
(one issue included, issue may differ from the one pictured)
A quarterly publication with Harp related articles, and many sources for harps,
accessories, sheet music, etc.
"Extras" for this harp are also available to purchase:
