Clare whistles are made in County Clare, Ireland by David
LeBas. They're available in your
choice of brass or nickel and have a plastic mouthpiece. The mouthpiece isn't glued on, so
the whistle is tunable (see the notes about tunable inexpensive whistles on our
Make it Tunable
Page). The mouthpiece fits snuggly - it won't slip while playing.
Clares have a slight "edge" to the tone, giving
them the "chiff" that many players look for when playing traditional jigs,
reels, etc.
This whistle is an excellent choice for beginners -
it plays very well in both octaves.
(Don't forget to order a
Whistle
Pouch for your whistle!)
